TRANMERE Rovers’ midfielder Max Power is the latest winner of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Ultimate Finish competition.

The 21-year-old achieved more than 50 per cent of the hundreds of votes cast to secure the area semi-final prize.

Power's goal came in Tranmere’s 2-2 draw with Walsall at Prenton Park, which the Saddlers won on penalties.

Walsall duo Anthony Forde and Michael Cain were also nominated for the Ultimate Finish goal of the round award.

But it was Power’s goal, a pin-point exquisite finish from the left edge of the box which curled into the top corner, which won the day in the supporter vote.

On his award Power said: "It was a pleasing goal and the only disappointment was that it didn't lead to us progressing further in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

"For the goal, I picked the ball up on the left edge of the box and my immediate thoughts were on shooting.

"As soon as I hit it, I had a feeling that it might be close and it was a great feeling when it went in the net.

It was a shame the penalty shoot-out went against us as it would have been great to reach the Area Final of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy but that is one of those things.2

As well as winning the Ultimate Finish trophy, Power’s strike has earned him a place in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Ultimate Finish of the Season competition which will showcase the competition’s best goals.

Ben Wilde, brand and sponsorship manager for Johnstone's Paint, said: "As befitting of the Area Finals of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, the three nominated goals were of an extremely high standard.

“It was a very tough choice for the fans who voted to make but Max’s goal was certainly a very classy finish and an extremely worthy winner.”
