TRANMERE Rovers' boss Micky Adams was disappointed to see his side concede a late equaliser against Cambridge in League Two action at Prenton Park last night, but added he was pleased with their performance.

After the 1-1 draw at Prenton Park, he told the club's website: "To come so close to a win is disappointing. But overall I'm pleased, I thought the effort was there again, we just didn't see it through.

"You saw the size of them, they're a big old unit, the lot of them.

"We always felt that set pieces would be a threat and before the game the message was don't give cheap free kicks and corners away because you invite their big guns to come up from the back.

"We coped with it admirably up until the last two minutes.

"They've done us with a set piece and we have to learn from that and be better. You need strong personalities in the last two minutes when you're 1-0 up and concede a corner.

"You know they're going to load the box but you do your job, lock on to people and attack the ball. If you don't attack it, we didn't, they did and it's in the back of our net.

"But we're talking about one incident in a game where I was pleased with the performance in difficult conditions. We didn't get outpassed or outplayed.

"Overall it's been a good couple of weeks and we should take a lot of positives from it.

"What we've shown everybody recently is that we can compete. We've still got to get away from that bottom two as best we can.

"I've always been a manager who rewards players for effort and results and we've had them. We're through to the third round of the FA Cup and out of the bottom two and they deserve a few days off.

"Hopefully they'll use it wisely and get their energy levels back up for a busy period over Christmas."

Rovers are in action against Burton Albion kick at Pirelli Stadium on Boxing Day, kick-off 3pm.
