DESPITE a goal from Sam Johnson, Halfway House saw the door to glory in the League's Challenge Cup shut firmly in their face, after they went down 3-1 to well-fancied Telegraph.

The Challenge Cup competition has a history of producing the odd shock result but on Sunday there were no surprises as the results ran true to the current form book.

Woodchurch Rovers were jubilant after they posted a 5-1 win over Bronze inspired by a smart double from Tony Jeffries. Mike Williams, Ian Jones and Kenny Murphy also hit the target in a comfortable victory.

Victoria Colts Seniors gave it their best shot against Port Sunlight and scored through Phil Lawrence, but defensive short comings cost them dearly as Sunlight expressed good counter attacking play and emerged 5-1 victors with efforts from Danny Nevin, Andy Grimes, Liam Stephens, Marc Lawlor and an own goal. Lack of an experienced centre back is Vics' main priority at present.

They'd welcome calls from interested persons via the club secretary Paul Oates on 0151-652-6118 or 07778495294.

MSC Eastham are also on the look out for players to bolster this season's campaign. Call secretary Paul Gee on 0151-201 0942 or 07944968599.

Strongly fancied Neston Nomads were too good on the day for Wallasey Athletic and progressed on the back of an 8-2 victory.

Rob Marrs was a two-goal star while further efforts from Richie Foulkes, Kevin Williams, Dean Jones, Paul Ellison, Jay Roberts and an own goal made up the balance.

Free scoring Riverside's name also went into the hat after they curtailed MSC Eastham's interests.

Gary Clarke (5) and Chris Maddocks (4) were the tormentors-in-chief in Sunday's 14-0 win.

Danny Russell (2) Paul O'Brien, James Taylor and Ryan Smith also found the net.

Match of the day in the Premier Division this weekend features Telegraph and Kent at Levers (11am kick-off).

Both sides have been scoring for fun of late, but a closer result is probably on the cards this time around.

Neston Nomads' tussle with Riverside at the Neston Recreation Centre is another game which should promote an open contest.
