TRANMERE Rovers' coach says tomorrow's Johnstone's Paint Trophy Northern Quarter Final clash with Bury will be a chance for players to show what they are made of ahead of this weekend's return to League Two action.

The match follows Rovers' 1-0 defeat of Conference Club Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup first round at Prenton Park on Saturday.

During a press conference at Prenton Park this afternoon, Chris Shuker said: "It's an opportunity for the manager to see players who have not had a game yet.

"There are good quality players in the team who have not had a chance to prove themselves, since Micky Adams took over.

"He's seen people in training, but can be different in training as opposed to on the pitch.

"One of the manager's favourite sayings is 'I don't want any training ground internationals'.

"People top-draw in training, but during the game they go missing, for whatever reason.

"I, personally, think the lads who might get a chance have got a lot to offer on the pitch."

Looking ahead to tomorrow's game, which kicks off at 7.45pm at the JD Stadium, Shuker said: "The lads are delighted to get their win on Saturday.

"They have even said they have forgotten what it was like to win the last time.

"The competition is frowned on by some people, including players.

"But it's a fabulous opportuntity to get to Wembley. It's a great day and something they will remember for the rest of their lives."

Saturday's win was Micky Adams' first as Tranmere manager.

Shuker said: "The lads were delighted to get that win on Saturday. They even said they had forgotten what it like the last time they won.

"Winning can only build confidence. The lads deserve to not let that goal go in the back of the net. The more you can win, the better."

Tranmere will discover who they'll face in the second round when the draw takes place tonight.

The draw will be broadcast live on BBC2 at 7pm, with Rovers joining the rest of League One, League Two and non-league sides aiming for a place in the third round.
