THE National Sunday Cup first round took pride of place in the league today with Queens Park FC defeating Kirkdale from Liverpool on penalties after both teams finished 2-2 after extra time Chrissie Barrow and Liam Atherton scoring the vital goals to see the game go to penalties and secure the Queens go into the draw for the second round, writes John Davies.

It was also Cheshire Sunday cup day with the league clubs doing well in this competition top spot must go to Dock FC who travelled to Stockport to defeat Queens Bredbury by 3-1 goals coming from Mark Read, Mike McGraaand and Keynan Mason in what appeared to be a bad tempered game with one player sent off and 14 cautions.

Rockferry Social also took their scoring boots with them when they won away at Real Form hitting four goals to two with Craig Cairns (2), Jon Atkinson and Josh Hughes all scoring. Heygarth United also travelled well winning 2-1 at Adswood United with goals from Dayne Murphy and Wayne Hulse.

Prenton Dell just scraped home with a 5-4 win over league opposition Brom Social Dell scorers John McKay (2), Timmy Bigland (2) and Chris Hannon with goals from Anto Jolley, Ben Windle, Warren Ryan and Jon Unsworth for the unlucky Brom Social.

The big local derby between Stirrup sports & Social and Woodchurch went to the visitors by 2-1 Woodchurch scorers Ben Homes and Paul Casey with a consolation from Chris Griffiths.

Biggest scorers on the day were Thorn Plumbing & Heating pulling the plug on Davenham Ath winning 7-1 with goals from Kyle Smith (2), Ryan Nicole (2), Jamie Easton, Danny Wainwright and Iain Forster making this a good day for the league unfortunately Beechwood Ath were unlucky to lose to Buck Inn 2-1 (R Thompson) and Lancelyn Glenavon going down 2-3 to the present cup holders Cale Green Goals from Danny Dixon and Greg Drummond.

Further cup action in the league was in the Tony Hoilihan Memorial Cup were there were plenty more goals with halfway House winning 7-2 against Oval Athletic with Garry Howarth scoring a hat trick and goals from Stewart Hardman (2), Micky Cowdroy and Kenny Mahon, but this was after extra time the score being 2-2 at full time Oval scorers Karl Wade and Ben Percival.

Afc Houlihans won 5-0 against Tower FC with Gully Taylor scoring four and Jack Rooke (1), Ashville OB (Karl Dennis 2) and Karl Aspinall ran out 3-2 against Western Victoria (Chris Lavery and Richard Courtney) netting for Western.

In another High scoring game Bromborugh Rake just piped Farmers Arms Moreton 5-4 K (Delaney 2 K Hughes 2 and N McCulloch), Farmers scores (Callum Hewitt 2, Steve Painter, and Mark Young).

Bierhaus won 3-2 ( Yates Clark 2 Gary Squibb penalty) against Allport Athletic (Connor Hodson 2), Lever Bushell won 1-0 (Neil Davies) against Rangers Breaks FC Greasby ran out 5-1 winners (James Hughes 2, Liam McColgan, Andy Wilson, Ricky Shakeshaft) at Old Parkonians and in another close game Lions FC (Craig Horton, Paul Fulham Steve Dutton and Sam Langan) winning 4-3 against Swan FC (Matty O'Shea and Tom Briggs).

League action saw Bidston Hotel win 2-0 against Lairds Sports & Social Vinney O'Toole and Mark Mcnoon scoring in this Premier Division clash.

First Division saw Queens Tower (Sean Mitchell and Jason Flaherty) share to spoils with Shaftesbury A (Ryan Griffith and Mark Askew) 2-2 and Division Two side FC Vaults (Rich Aspry 2 Danny Bass) just edged it over New Ferry Rangers ( Terry New and Gary Williams).

Finally it was a points day for Wirral Radio collecting their first league win 3-0 of the season over Bebington Oval (louis Allen Sam Calcott and Nikki Watkinson all scoring).

Ellesmere Port Athletic ran out 2-0 winners at South Rangers while New Ferry Rangers put three past Forum Ath to their two goals.
