FRIDAY evening's Premier Cup final at Kirklands brought together Wirral Sunday League Premier Division’s big hitters – Kent FC and Neston Nomads.

The game lived up to its billing and provided excellent entertainment as both sides strived to land the one trophy which has so far eluded them.

It was always going to be a closely-contested affair, but with extra time looming, it was Kent who profited and denied Nomads of a league and cup double.

Kent dominated the majority of play during the first-half as Craig Langhorn and Scott Parkinson pulled the strings in midfield, with up front outlets Danny Morley and Jonathan Parkinson providing a constant threat.

Callum Allcock gave Kent an early lead with an astute finish, before Nomads levelled on the counter shortly before the interval with an excellent equaliser from the tireless John Lloyd.

Both sides enjoyed lengthy spells of possession after the break, but with ten minutes remaining, a double substitution from Steve English inspired Kent, who pressed for the winner and their efforts were rewarded after Craig Langhorn eluded his marker and fired home from 14 yards.

Three nights later, and Kent were back in the Pyke Cup final against unbeaten Division One champions Bebington, who at one stage led 3-1 with 20 minutes remaining.

Again, it was for a trophy neither side had won before, and if this game was anything to go by, this Sunday evening’s Challenge Cup final at Lairds (6.30pm kick off) between the same two sides, should be well worth the wait.

Stuart Hardman and Karl Smith hit Kent on the break, as Graeme Kearney’s underdogs went in at half time 2-0 up.

Jonathan Parkinson then reduced the deficit with a well taken goal before Hardman restored Bebington’s advantage.

A stunning effort from Scott Parkinson made it 3-2 before Danny Morley smashed home an 89th minute penalty to take the game into extra time.

It was then Jonathan Parkinson’s turn to shine, and a brilliant double from the big striker set Kent up for a dramatic 5-3 victory.

This Friday evening sees Lairds provide the backdrop for the Martin Caulfield Junior Cup final between Bromborough and Port Sunlight. (7pm kick off).
