It was a week of mixed emotions for Vauxhall Motors Res, who progressed to the Cheshire County FA's Amateur Cup final on Wednesday.

After a sparkling double from Jordan Brierley secured a 2-0 result over rival Carlsberg Division One outfit, Cammell Laird Res, they'll now face Stockport Georgians in the final, after the Cheshire League side beat Ashville 1-0.

The Motormen's jubilation then turned to despair on Saturday, after they capitulated 2-0 to goals from  Ashville's Steve Kane and Kevin Fitzsimmons in a keenly contested Pyke Cup semi-final.

In the other semi, 2009 winners Newton needed extra time but came good after Jonathan Wilkinson and Paul Davies obliged in a 2-1 decision over Mossley Hill Ath.

Long time Division One leaders, Maghull, won 5-2 at Cammell Laird Res, thanks to efforts from Colin McDonald (2), Dan Dillon, Tom Martin and Steve Williams.

A point from this Saturday's encounter with third placed Ashville will see the Liverpool challengers crowned champions for the first time.

At the other end of the table, Mallaby consigned Heswall to bottom spot, after a Gerard Mullen double, and a dipping 20-yard volley from Jordan Costello sealed a fine 3-0 win over West Kirby.

In one of the two Chester derbies honours were shared, after Blacon YC finished 0-0 with Christleton.

In the other clash, Jack Delgado bagged the game's only goal, as Chester Nomads accounted for Upton AA.

Elsewhere, in-form striker, Cameron Dalton, obliged with both goals as South Liverpool eclipsed Southport Trinity 2-1.

Division Two leaders, Richmond RR Mags, came unstuck at home to title favourites, Capenhurst Villa, who won 2-0, courtesy of a goal apiece from Dan Carter and Mike Banks.

That result enabled second placed Helsby to go level on points with the leaders, after Carl Rendell netted in the 1-0 victory over Maghull Res.

A John Lewis strike was enough for Heswall Res. to get the better of Willaston, while Andy Kingan and Tommy Carrol found the net, as Manor Ath won 2-1 against Gateacre Village.

Sam Gifford's hat trick helped  Prescot Cables Res. to a 5-2 result at Bebington Ath and Ben Holme followed suit, with three for Redgate Rovers, in their 8-0 blitz of luckless Mersey Royal.

Rainhill Town, buoyed by Matt Dooling brace, and  further efforts from Dan Leather, Colin Gamon and an own goal, stormed home 5-0 against Widnes Vikings Res, and increased their lead at the top of Division Three to ten points.

Second-placed Hale Res scored through Anthony Terry and Colin Mee but went down 3-2 to replies from St. Helens Town Res' Adam Owens, Kyle Ross and Ryan Cossers.

Kris Jones struck twice for Christelton Res, in their 2-2 stalemate with Marshalls Res.

But a double from Upton AA Res' Mike Murray counted for nothing, after Belfry emerged 4-2 victors, with Andrew Hunt, Dean Copeland, Mark Brady and John Milner on the mark.

Saturday's Youth Plate Group 'A' action, saw Vauxhall Youth profit after Cy Sullivan, Brandon Thomas and Joe Jones scored in the 3-1 success at Maghull Youth while Newton Youth savoured a 2-1 win over Widnes Vikings Youth. Tom Morgan and Joe Molyneux scored for the winners.
