AN excellent Sunday League Challenge Cup second-round clash between Premier Division titans Kent FC and arch rivals Neston Nomads lived up to its billing - and it was the more determined Kent who won though by a 3-2 margin.

Goals from Kent's Jonathan Parkinson and Paul Davies were negated by a smart double from Neston's Paul Ellison, before a stunning late free kick from Danny Morley clinched victory for the hosts.

In the Wallasey derby, it was Primrose Liscard who progressed after they won 3-0 at Wallasey Town Athletic.

A welcome 2-0 result at Shore Villa was just the job for Towers who escaped bottom spot in the Premier Division thanks to astute finishing from Lee Fitzpatrick and the evergreen Mike Vernon.

MSC Eastham were left still in search of their first league win of the season, but came close to creating an upset against current Division One leaders Higher Bebington RBL.

Mark Roberts was on target for Eastham but it was the leaders who profited after Aaron Dyle bagged both goals in a narrow 2-1 finish.

Promotion rivals Bebington were also given a kick up the backside after they went behind to a goal from Forum Athletic's Andy Williams, but corrected the situation and ran out 4-2 victors courtesy of replies from Chris Ballard (2) Darren Smith and Stuart Hardman.

That result cost Bromborough Social second place after they lost out 2-1 to efforts from Lever Bushell Athletic's Joe Griffiths and a late decider from Nathan Ellis.

Julian Gorbett's lone strike against Port Sunlight gave Division Two leaders Greave a significant foothold in the race for the title, after second-placed Gladstone Athletic fell four points behind following a disappointing 2-1 defeat at Halfway House.

Johnny Cable scored both goals, as the Childer Thornton outfit savoured their sixth win of the season and climbed to fourth place in the table.

Bronze went fifth but forfeited two points after they were held to a 0-0 stalemate by Bromborough who had man of the match, Joe Unsworth, in fine fettle.
