CAMMELL Laird made it a fantastic seven days in football as they recorded three victories in as many games during the last week culminating in a 2-0 success over Lancashire outfit Padiham at Kirklands, writes Phillip Wilkinson.

Having beaten Ossett away last Saturday as well as a comfortable 3-1 away triumph at St Helens in the Liverpool Senior Cup, they locked horns with the Northern Premier League's newest members Padiham.

It's no coincidence either that during those last two games prior to Saturday's clash with Padiham that Cammell Laird had welcomed back Craig Cairns from a long lay-off due to injury and it was the young Lairds forward who smashed in the second goal in good afternoon for the Division One North side.

Lairds began brightly and could have been at least three in front by half an hour in, after Henders, Cairns and Lundon all had efforts saved by the Padiham number one Sean Davis.

In the second half it was pretty much the same with one way traffic of Lairds' attacks hammering down on the Padiham goal, Joe Evans saw a curling effort just miss the angle of post and cross bar from 25 yards with Davis in the Padiham beaten for the first time in the game.

Evans was involved again as he combined with Potter to set Henders whose shot was just wide.

With 67 minutes registered, it would have been fair to assume Lairds may have been a little anxious, especially after the run of luck and form of late, but the Cammells continued to attack and were in front thanks to club top scorer Jamie Henders who notched up his eighth goal of the season.

After some good work on the right hand side, the ball fell to Henders who slotted past the impressive Padiham goalkeeper.

Lairds struck a second just four minutes later; Jamie Henders got on the end of a Joe Evans cross and his point blank header was saved by Davis in fine fashion and even saved the follow up from Henders whilst sprawling on the floor but the rebound fell to Cairns who smashed home from six yards to secure all three points for the Rock Ferry side.

Lairds continue their busy period with a double header at home starting Tuesday as they entertain Bamber Bridge in the NPL League Cup second round followed by the visit of former Newcastle United star Darren Peacock and his Lancaster City side.
