FOLLOWING a spell of disappointing league results, Vauxhall Motors Res. moved up through the gears, and stormed into the Cheshire County FA's Saturday Amateur Cup 3rd round.

The Carlsberg West Cheshire outfit were more than a match for visitors, Middlewich Town, and posted an 8-0 result, inspired by doubles from Mark Head and Tom Craig.

Division Two leaders, Helsby, accounted for Division One counterparts, Heswall, 2-1, courtesy of goals from Tony Hodnet and former Heswall man, Matty Johnson, while holders, West Kirby, had to rely on efforts from Stuey Jackson and Tom Murray to eclipse Bebington Ath. 2-1 in extra time.

Manor Ath. went down 2-0 at Linotype, but it was celebration time for Mallaby, after Gerard Mullen obliged with both goals in a fine 2-0 win at Broadheath Central.

Penalties halted Upton AA's progress at Knutsford, and the dreaded spot kick scenario also halted Capenhurst Villa's progress at Shaftesbury YC.

James Clare (2) and Josh Amis made the score sheet, as Ashville went through after beating Dukinfield Town 3-1, and a solitary strike from Chris Sheppard earned Newton the nod over Blacon YC.

Danny Dixon, Carl Clampitt, Ben Crossley and Jonathan Atkinson all found the net as Cammell Laird Res. triumphed 4-1 against Wilmslow.

In the Liverpool County FA Junior Cup 2nd round, doubles from Sharif Yusuf and Chris Bramhall helped South Liverpool Res. to a 5-1 result at Knowsley South, while three goal Matt Dooling took the plaudits, after his hat trick inspired Rainhill Town to a 7-0 decision over rival Division Three side, Kirkby Town Railway.

On the domestic scene, Division One leaders, Maghull, returned to winning ways and stayed three points in credit, after they humbled Chester Nomads 7-0, with goals from Mick McGinn (4) Danny Dillon (2) and Ryan Stamper but nearest rivals, South Liverpool, stayed in the leaders' slipstream, after Kevin Martin and Alex Woodcock netted in a keenly-contested 2-0 win at Hale.

Despite a goal from Adam Thelwell Wilson, Christleton lost 2-1 to replies from Southport Trinity's Ben Johnson and Callum Kelly.

Division Two action, saw Richmond RR Mags move to within four points of the leaders, thanks t a 4-0 victory over Ashville Res.

Danny Powell (2) Paul Gouthwaite and Brad Thompson were on the mark, and Prescot Cables Res. also stoked up their challenge, after Rupert Cottrell(2) Eddie Johnson and Ashton Gibiliru scored in a welcome 4-2 result over West Kirby Res.

Ashley Hawthorne was a two goal star who shone in Marshall's 3-2 win at Willaston.

Marshalls' second string won by the same scoreline against Christleton Res. in Division Three, with Danny Connor (2) and Ryan Henry on target, but a goal from Tony Hill was scant reward for Merseyside Police, who capitulated 3-1 to replies from Chester Nomads Res.' Ryan Trousdale, Jake McCallum and Callum Johnson.

Tolly Keenan (2) and Chris Cottington hit the target as Ford Motors won 3-1 at Upton AA Res. and in the Youth Division, Adam Hughes(3) and Joe Caswell shared the goals in Vauxhall Motors Youth's 4-2 success at Newton Youth.
