Vauxhalls salvage league point with late goal
MOTORS got out of jail with a late equaliser from Lloyd Ellams after a Jamie Allen strike had put Barrow in the driving seat.
The first-half was a scrappy encounter with neither side getting a grip on the game however it was the away side who looked more likely to score.
On 37 minutes, Barrow debutant Dan Preston headed just over following a corner but it was just two minutes later when the Bluebirds took the lead.
Motors' keeper Zac Jones hesitated when the ball was played back to him and as he tried to clear his lines, Nick Rushton slid in to block his attempted clearance and although Rushton’s shot was saved by Jones, Jamie Allen was on hand to slot the ball into an empty net.
Motors improved in the second-half with Karl Noon and Ashley Stott both firing wide from close range.
At the other end, Meechan could have put the game out of reach on 57 minutes but he shot tamely at Jones.
Barrow were reduced to ten men on 79 minutes when captain Paul Edwards received his second yellow card for a clumsy challenge on substitute Tom Rutter just outside the area.
Vauxhalls then bombarded the Barrow defence in search of an equaliser but had to wait until the last minute before they got their rewards.
Matty Williams floated over a corner from the left and Ellams was on hand at the back post to head home from two yards out.
Motors almost snatched victory in the closing seconds but McMillan did well to smother away Matty Williams’ close range effort. Vauxhall: Jones, Wainwright, Barnes, Hannigan, Nicholas, Noone, Noon (Rugg 65), Williams, Stott (Rutter 74), Ellams, Kosylo (Fearnehough 46) Subs not used: Clair, Ellison.
This Saturday, October 26, the Motormen are in FA Cup action when they travel to Moss Rose to take on Macclesfield Town in the fourth qualifying round of the competition. 3pm kick-off.
