Wallasey & District Sunday League
2:21pm Monday 11th March 2013 in Sport By Tom Potter
YET again weather conditions affected the number of games completed as pitches were deemed unplayable due to surface water.
Those that did take place produced some excellent football, which included Cetco Europe’s continuing battle to stay in the title race in Division One as they overcame a strong and determined Upton FC 4-3,to edge closer to inactive R&C Dukes.
Goals from Vinny O’Toole and Lee Plant put Cetco in control by the break, but Upton hit back to level matters before further goals from Tom Farrington and Dean Hazelhurst gave them the points, despite a late third goal from Upton.
A solitary Tom Kirwan goal was not enough for FC Victoria as Grange Moreton beat them 2-1 with goals from Lewis Palin and Lewis Clarke in an end to end encounter.
Irby FC stumped PLCCFC with a 4-1 success in which player manager Matty Kerr, Ross Pringle, Terry Ainsworth and Chris Lea found the net in a great game.
Clash of the day came in the Premier division and resulted in a hard fought 1-0 victory for leaders Millhouse over Great Float S&S.
No quarter was given nor asked for in a really competitive game that could have gone either way, but the outcome was secured by a single effort from Paul Howell with about 20 minutes left to play and they are now ten points clear at the top.
Ship Wallasey cruised to victory in division Two when bagging double figures against the Vineyard thanks to Paul Williams and Ryan Atherton both netting four times, with Steve Seddon-2, Dale Atherton and Dean Kelly completing the rout, which keeps them well in the promotion hunt.
AM Plant Hire shared the spoils with The Rakers as they drew 3-3, as John Walters netted a brace and Adam Baxter scored a late equaliser as they dug in to stay in the top four.
Poulton Vics edged out Shippons FC in a 3-2 win that saw goals from Chris Cousins, Craig Naylor and Craig Smith, but they remain in the bottom four.
Only one game survived in the Youth division and saw New Brighton Youth beat Eastham Rangers 3-0 with goals from Mike Byrne-2 and Matty Holden to give them the double over their opponents.
Neither of the Premier division Cup 1st round games took place due to different reasons.
Windsor's ground was waterlogged and so that game will take place next Sunday versus the Cheese.
The other tie was awarded to Poulton Royal as Cheshire Cheese where unable to field a team.
Fixtures will now be altered to accommodate cup tie changes.
