Laird's extend unbeaten run

CAMMELL Laird extended their run of unbeaten games to ten following a 1-1 draw against Curzon Ashton in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division One (North).

With a bumper crowd of more than 600 attending the game, Laird got off to a blistering start and could have been awarded a penalty when Joe Holt was brought down inside the 18 yard box after just 30 seconds, writes Phillip Wilkinson.

Laird continued to apply the pressure and, having dealt with a corner after just three minutes, Curzon's defence failed to get themselves out of the penalty box and a deep cross from in-form fullback Frederick Potter was met with conviction by Laird's veteran defender Lee Atherton to give the Cammells the early lead.

As the first half progressed the home side began to get a foothold in the game creating a couple of half chances, however none that really troubled Laird's keeper Kevin Atherton.

But just before half time, the home side levelled the score with a goal from a corner

In the second half, Laird's frontmen failed to test the Curzon goalie again. Both sides huffed and puffed but neither could break down each others defences and a draw was a fair result.
