RAIN had a major say in the Bank Holiday Saturday cricket programme but some matches involving local clubs were completed.

Neston fell to a seven wickets reverse at Chester Broughton Hall in the Premier Division of the Chapel Press Cheshire County League after being put in first. Their 149 total (David Hurst 37) proved inadequate.

Rain brought an early finish at Oxton who had reached 104-5 chasing a Hyde declared total of 228-6.

Irby in Division One enjoyed a four wickets victory over visiting Brooklands. Greg Shillinglaw 59 and Ray Houghton 6-43 were key men.

Upton played out a draw at Tattenhall where Jared Van Heerden contributed 59 and Gary Dixon took 4-89.

Birkenhead Park were the only local winners in the Bridging Finance Solutions Liverpool Competition.

They came away 97 runs to the good from Prestatyn in Division Two. Dan Jordan top scored with 63 and the bowlers to shine were Alex Harris 4-15 and Chris Stenhouse 3-35.

Rain saved Birkenhead St Mary’s at home to Skelmersdale whilst the Sutton v Caldy game did not get started.

Wallasey in Division One had to settle for a home draw against Fleetwood Hesketh with rain saving the day for the visitors who were on 112-9 (Liam Crilly 4-25) when the players were forced off. Crilly earlier reached 54 not out with David Conlon undefeated on 40.

The rain came to the aid of New Brighton at Highfield in the Premier Division. They closed on 89-6 chasing a home declared score of 239. Best for the seasiders were John While 43 not out and Neil Cross 4-46.

Eastham Bromborough were the only local winners in the Cheshire Alliance. They made it by 37 runs against Capenhurst in a low scoring Division Three clash. Ian Corner jnr took 6-27.

Ian Smith hit 41 for Tranmere Vics at Kerridge in a rain ruined clash.
