IT was not a good Saturday for the local sides in the Bridging Finance Solutions Liverpool Competition.

A 6-29 haul by Ashraf Nawab could not save New Brighton in an eight runs Premier Division reverse at home to Leigh.

Wallasey lost again in Division One, this time by 118 runs at Formby. The decision to put the home side in first back fired as they declared on 301-3. Graham Reid with a half century and Liam Crilly 46 did their best in the Wallasey reply.

Chris Stenhouse finished with 6-46 for Birkenhead Park but they lost by 45 runs at home to St Helens Recs in Division Two.

Parkfield Liscard had a bad day at Burscough in an 87 runs reverse.

Caldy just hung on for a draw against visiting Wavertree. Rich Battersby finished with 4-51 and Dave Kay 4-58.

Neston edged the Chapel Press Premier League derby at home to Oxton. The margin was nine runs. David Hurst top scored with 86 for Neston and John Crick contributed 52. Best for Oxton were Lou Vincent 83 and Ross Dixon 5-29.

Irby came a seven wickets cropper at Bredbury St Marks in Division One. Their 124 total (Greg Shillinglaw 54) after being asked to bat proved not enough.

It was better for Upton who gained a welcome six wickets home victory over Alvanley in Division Two.

Parkonians face a relegation battle in Division One of the Cheshire Alliance after losing by 26 runs against Trinity. Chris Beckett bowled through the Trinity innings to return 6-110 and Adam Westwater claimed 4-51. Mike Hitchell top scored with 53.

Tranmere Vics beat Sandbach II by five wickets in Division Three.

Eastham Bromborough drew at Rostherne where Mike Hooks made 75 and Mark Griffiths 43.

Wirral failed by 80 runs at home to Disley in Division Three of the Meller Braggins Cheshire League after being dismissed for a meagre 84.
