OLD Parkonians 1st XI continued on their winning streak last weekend which saw the Holm Lane side go top of Cheshire Cricket League Division 4.

The low-scoring thriller, sponsored by Ian Williams photography, saw Beckett’s men defeat visitors Audlem by 33 runs.

Audlem skipper Callum McIllveen called correctly at the toss and asked Old Parkonians to bat on a pitch that had a bit of moisture about it and appeared to favour the bowlers.

The decision looked a great one when the hosts were immediately put on the back foot, reeling at 16-4 after 10 overs having lost the top order for very few runs.

The middle order fell in similar fashion, as Simon Swift (4-25) and McIllveen (5-22) ripped through the Old Parkonians team.

At 42-9 then match looked set for a very early conclusion, but last man Beckett (33) and veteran Mike Hitchell (17) put together a vital 47 runs for the final wicket bringing the score up to a slightly more respectable 89.

With the assistance the pitch was offering the bowlers, the hosts knew that 89 could be defended.

Indeed it was, as just like the first innings, the visitors collapsed with wickets tumbling at regular intervals.

The score went to 13-3 which soon became 26-6 as the opening bowlers did most of the damage.

The reliable Ben Rees (14-6-21-4) bowled with great pace and utilised the extra bounce the pitch was offering.

From the other end, the leg spin of Adam Westwater (11-2-15-4) equally bamboozled the visitors.

At 31-8 Beckett came into the attack and within three overs had snared the final two wickets, bowling Audlem out for 56.
