AN outstanding bowling display by Rob Houghton helped Birkenhead Park to a six wickets home success over Southport & Birkdale in the Premier Division of the Liverpool Competition.

Houghton enjoyed a 9-49 return off twenty one overs, four of which were maidens.

It helped restrict the visitors to 176 and then Ian Daniel 67 and Luke Camden undefeated on 40 saw Park to victory.

It was a good day for the local sides in the division.

Wallasey took a low-scoring affair at Highfield by 17 runs and New Brighton had seven wickets to spare against Ormskirk.

Chris Bourne 6-33 and Lahiru Wellalege 3-14 were the Wallasey bowlers to shine.

Ashraf Nawab and Andrew Clarke took three wickets each for the seasiders and the leading bats were Luke Proctor 29 and Upal Fernando 27 who enjoyed an unbeaten fourth wickets partnership of 53.

Darren Craven included a hat-trick in his 4-19 return for Parkfield Liscard but they went under by 38 runs at Alder in Division Two.

Caldy were skittled for 59 in 30 overs by Hightown St Mary's who replied with 62-3.

Birkenhead St Mary's fell by four wickets at Sutton.

Chris Byrne top scored with 25 in a St Mary's total of 78 after they were asked to bat first.

Dave Stewart returned 3-17 in the Sutton reply.

Neston got home by two wickets against Marple at Parkgate in the Premier Division of the Cheshire County League.

Matt Stewart played a key role with a 5-47 haul.

Oxton in Division One fell by 104 runs at home to Timperley.

Shaaiq Choudry 5-45 and Graham Cashin 33 not out were best on the day.

There were home defeats for Irby and Upton In Division Two. Dave Newman hit 41 for Irby in a 151-9 total after 50 overs.

Bollington cruised home for the loss of just one wicket.

Upton posted 193-7 against Warrington who acieved the required runs with five wickets intact.

Tranmere Vics failed by 28 runs at home to Saughall in Division One of the Cheshire Alliance.

Old Parkonians were easy winners by 161 runs against Eastham and Bromborough in Division Two.

Ian Smith hit 67 and there were also good knocks from Mike Hitchell 58 not out and Ben Rees 36.

Adam Winstanley took 5-12 for the winners.

Port Sunlight got home by 30 runs at Langley in a low scoring Cheshire League Division Three encounter.

The soapmen were dismissed for 73 after being asked to bat first but then Adam Crosby 7-17 and Ben MacPherson 3-15 set to work to see the home side all out for a meagre 43.

Wirral's Andy Slight claimed 4-26 at Wilmslow Wayfarers to restrict the home side to 106. But then Wirral lost their top four batsmen for ducks and were always struggling. In the end they totalled 75.
