BIRKENHEAD Park maintained their title hopes in Division One of the Liverpool & District Competition with a nail-biting success over Newton Le Willows.

But it was not a good day for Premier League sides New Brighton and Wallasey as both met with defeat.

A knock of 59 not out by David While was not enough for New Brighton who fell by 154 runs at Leigh in the Premier League.

Wallasey lost by six wickets at home to Northern. Number eleven Matty Hughes top scored with just 26 and the 112 total by the local side never looked like being enough.
