NESTON opening batsmen Will Evans and Dave Hurst put on a magnificent show to earn a ten-wickets home victory over Macclesfield in their latest outing in the Premier Division of the Cheshire County League.

Macclesfield batted first and posted a respectable 276. But then Evans and Hurst mauled the visiting bowlers and enjoyed a 280 unbroken partnership. Evans included 21 fours and four sixes in his 160 and Hurst 15 fours and three sixes in his 114.

Neston sit at the head of the table.

It was also a winning day for Oxton (seventh in the table) by seven wickets over Nantwich.

Shaaiq Choudry 5-32 and Martyn Evans 4-28 helped restrict the visitors to 103. Evans hit 66 in the home reply to claim the man of the match standing.

Irby in Division Two made it by two wickets at home to Bollington. The visitors batted first but Alex Cummings 7-38 and James Hurworth 3-48 restricted them to a 139 total.

It was never easy for the home batsmen but they eased to victory in the end.

It was not a good day for the local clubs in the Premier Division of the Liverpool Competition. Wallasey fell by 73 runs at Bootle and New Brighton by five wickets at home to Southport and Birkdale.

Alex Eagles did his best for Wallasey with a knock of 69.

Matty Climo with 34 top scored for the seasiders in a meagre 124 total after they were put in. Adnan Ghaus took 3-20 for Brighton but the combined side were never really in danger.

It was better for title chasing Birkenhead Park in Division One as they saw off Northop Hall by 74 runs. Craig Reid made 64 and Ian Cooper 59 as Park after being asked to bat totalled 226-7.

Rob Houghton with 6-28 helped restrict the Welsh side to a 152 total.

Parkfield Liscard lost by 32 runs at Liverpool despite the efforts of Kamran Hussein 53 and Rameez Ahmed 6-66.

Birkenhead St Mary’s had to settle for a draw in Division Two at Prestatyn where they closed fifteen runs behind with three wickets intact.

Mike Bowe contributed an unbeaten 59 and Arfan Khalid 44. Muhammad Qasim and Muhammad Ghafoor took three wickets apiece at a cost of 38 and 35 runs respectively.

Caldy went down by 16 runs at St Helens Town. Best on the day for the losers were Jerome Groot 57, Dave Kaye 5-65 and Joe Poste 3-23 plus 47.

Wallasey sit sixth in their division with New Brighton two places back. Birkenhead Park head Division One but Parkfield Liscard at the bottom are in danger of relegation.

St Mary's and Caldy are ninth and tenth respectively in Division Two.

Upton in Division One of the Cheshire League where they stand in third position romped to a ten wickets success at Winnington Park who were put out for just 96.

Bowler to shine was Gary Dixon with a 5-37 return. Alex Cotter 81 and Simon Evans 13 were the successful Upton openers.

Wirral, who are tenth in Division Three, went under by 57 runs at Over Peover.

There was no joy for Old Parkonians or Ellesmere Port in Division One of the Cheshire Alliance.

Parkonians lost by seven wickets at Stalybridge St Pauls and Ellesmere Port went under by 153 runs at Wilmslow as they were all out 63 chasing a 215 declared score.

Tranmere Vics sent Offerton packing in Division Two. Ben England helped dismiss the visitors for 74 with a 6-39 haul. Vics declared on 237-4 (M Edwards 79no, G Francis 71, S Tuohey 43).

Port Sunlight thrashed Styal by 136 runs. The home side managed just 49 replying to the Sunlight tally of 185 as they batted first after winning the toss.

Parkonians are seventh in their division with Ellesmere Port in danger of relegation next to bottom. Sunlight are clear at the head of Division Two with Vics third.
