LOCAL cricketers enjoyed the best weather of the season to date last Saturday but runs were not easy to come by with only one century recorded.

New Brighton in the Premier Division of the Liverpool & District Competition posted a three wickets win at home to Ormskirk. John While unbeaten on 52, Luke Proctor 51 and Louis Botes 40 were well to the fore.

Wallasey had a miserable time in the sunny conditions at Leigh. They were dismissed for 109 and went under by nine wickets.

In Division One Birkenhead Park came an unexpected cropper by six wickets at Colwyn Bay.

They were asked to bat first and were in trouble until No 9 Adrian Kinsey contributed an unbeaten 71.

They were eventually dismissed for 196 and the Welsh club eased home without any real problem.

Parkfield Liscard had to settle for a draw against visiting Newton Le Willows whose last pair hung on. Dave Hadden top scored with 69, Kamran Hussein contributed 51 and Grant Hughes had a 4-25 return.

Birkenhead St Mary's in Division Two saw off St Helens Town by six wickets.

The visitors declared on 229-8 with the wickets shared amongst five bowlers.

Mike Bowe (76) and Muhammad Ghafoor (57) produced a sparkling unbeaten fifth wickets partnership of 145 for the winners.

Caldy fell by 70 runs at Burscough. The home side reached 220-5dec after being a put in and Caldy were out for 150.

Neston got home by four wickets against Marple in the Premier Division of the Cheshire County League. Luke Camden contributed 78 and Andrew Clarke 41. Paul Stimson finished with 4-105.

It was not good for Oxton at Grappenhall. They were all out for 117 chasing a home tally of 243-8.

Marc de Brabander hit top score of 42 but too many batsmen failed to settle in against a sound bowling attack.

There was no joy for Upton in Division One of the Cheshire League. They were all out for 206 at Mobberley who cruised home by nine wickets with overs to spare.

Best for the losers were Matt Ingram 49 and Darren Warburton 45.

Wirral went under by six wickets at Barrow in Division Three.

Old Parkonians enjoyed a three wickets win over visiting Rylands in Division One of the Cheshire Alliance. Captain for the day Adam Westwater claimed 5-27 and Mike Hitchell struck a half century.

Ellesmere Port finished 45 runs to the good at Stretton.

Tranmere Vics in Division Two failed by 61 runs at Audlem. Richard Baker 5-53 and Sean Tuohey 4-15 did their best.

It was pleasing for Port Sunlight as they beat Mossley by 84 runs. Man of the Match was all rounder Danny Van der Berg with an unbeaten 126 and a 5-43 haul.
