IT WAS not a good Saturday for the local clubs in the Liverpool and District Competition Premier League with New Brighton losing by four wickets at home to Bootle and Wallasey going down by ten wickets at Lytham.

Luke Proctor struck a fine 122 for the seasiders including a dozen fours and four sixes but the 262-9 total after 55 overs proved insufficient as Bootle produced an excellent response.

Wallasey collapsed to 77 all out after being put in at Lytham whose openers then saw them home with ease.

Birkenhead Park in Division One were cursing the rain as they were denied by the last Liverpool pair. Park posted 235-7 with Craig Reid 73, Adam Liu 64 and Rob Houghton 39 not out batting well.

Chris Stenhouse took 7-94 for the visitors but rain denied them the last few overs with one wicket wanted.

Parkfield Liscard totalled 133 (Rameez Ahmed 65) after being asked to bat first at home to Rainford who eventually got home by four wickets.

Birkenhead St Mary’s saw off Sutton by 84 runs in Division Two. Arfan Khalid 83, Mike Bowe 36 and Zahin Mohammed 5-31 were well to the fore.

Caldy failed by five wickets at Spring View despite the efforts of Haroon Khan 81, Joe Poste 40 and Jerome Groot 35.

Oxton secured a three wickets home success over Didsbury in the Premier Division of the Cheshire County League. Gayan Fernando took 3-48 as the visitors were restricted to 167-9 in their 55 overs.

Alex Money 41 and Marc de Brabander undefeated on 40 saw Oxton home.

There was agony for Neston as they went under by two runs at home to Bowdon. Luke Camden 59, David Hirst 33 and Paul Stimson 5-56 were best on the day.

Upton were happy with a four wickets win at Cheshire County Officers in Division One of the Cheshire League.

Wirral in Division Three fell by seven wickets at Winsford.

Old Parkonians came away 76 runs to the good from Ellesmere Port in Division One of the Cheshire Alliance. Nick Hitchell contributed 45 and Chris Beckett claimed 4-24.

There were wins for Port Sunlight and Tranmere Vics in Division Two.

Sunlight had 76 runs to spare at Heaton Moor.

Vics accounted for visiting Mossley by 90 runs. Andrew Wood finished with 6-22 and the batsmen to shine were Eddie Briers 59 not out, Mark O’Brien 44, Sean Tuohey 41 and Rich Baker 39 not out.
