ALL-ROUNDER Neil Cross turned on the style to help Wallasey to a four wickets victory at Hightown in the Premier Division of the Liverpool & District Competition.

His 8-34 off 11.4 overs restricted the home side to a 168 total. Cross then contributed top score of 39 in the Wallasey reply.

New Brighton had late order batsmen Lawrence Wilson and Adnan Ghaus to thank for their six runs success over visiting Highfield.

Number nine Wilson 52 not out and number eleven Ghaus 38 put on 89 valuable runs for the last wicket.

Cornelius de Villiers with 4-31 was the best Brighton bowler as Highfield fell just short.

Birkenhead Park in Division One went under by four wickets at Rainhill. Alex Harris unbeaten on 53 and Adam Liu 42 tried hard with the bat, putting on 83 in an excellent last wicket partnership. Rob Houghton bowled well for a 4-51 return.

Parkfield Liscard lost by four wickets at Formby. Rameez Ahmed struck 60 and Abid Riaz 40 whilst Kamran Hussein finished with 4-53.

Birkenhead St Mary’s and Caldy both lost in Division Two. The Saints fell by four wickets at home to Burscough, Mohammad Ghafoor 59, Lee Roberts 42 and Darcy Ward 4-53 were best on the day.

Caldy were hammered by Wavertree. Richard Cowderoy contributed 51 and Joe Poste an unbeaten 43 but the 168 total was not enough as Wavertree cruised it by eight wickets.

Oxton enjoyed a five wickets home triumph over Toft in the Premier Division of the Cheshire County League. Martyn Evans 5-56 and Simon Stokes 55 were the main contributors.

It was also a good day for Neston who accounted for Nantwich by six wickets. David Hurst top scored with 54 and there were three wickets apiece for Paul Stimson and Jordan Free.

Upton slumped to a 47 runs reverse at Northwich where they were dismissed for 97 chasing a declared 144-9 total.

It was better for Wirral in Division Three as they came away six wickets winners from Alderley Park.

Old Parkonians failed by five wickets at Saughall in Division One of the Cheshire Alliance after being restricted to 144.

Ellesmere Port in the same division crushed Rylands who batted first and posted a dismal 46. Port lost two wickets hitting off the runs.

There were wins for Port Sunlight and Tranmere Vics in Division Two. Sunlight had 100 runs to spare against Norbury.

Danny Van der Berg had a good afternoon with a knock of 49 and a 5-11 haul off 7.3 overs. David Scott Nielson contributed 47.

Vics saw off Holmes Chapel by five wickets. Rich Baker 74 and Stuart Tuohey 67 enjoyed an unbroken 125 sixth wicket partnership after Ed Briers claimed 4-21.

New Brighton entertain Leigh and Wallasey go to Northern this Saturday in the Premier Division of the Liverpool Competition.

Lower down the scale matches include Birkenhead Park v Newton Le Willows, Parkfield Liscard at Wigan, Caldy at Alder and Birkenhead St Mary’s at Spring View.

In the Cheshire County League Premier Division Neston are due at Chester Broughton Hall and Macclesfield head to Oxton.

Irby in Division Two visit Poynton.

Upton welcome Prestbury in Division One of the Cheshire League and Wirral have The Groves as visitors in Division Three.

Division One clashes in the Cheshire Alliance include Old Parkonians v Glazebury and Ellesmere Port at Haslington. In Division Two Tranmere Vics head for Bowdon and Port Sunlight welcome Frodsham.
