A DAMP Saturday failed to halt most cricket matches involving local clubs but there were exceptions with abandonments including Orrell Red Triangle v Parkfield Liscard and Skelmersdale v Caldy in the Liverpool & District Competition.

Wallasey and New Brighton had to settle for draws in the Competition’s Premier Division.

Wallasey totalled 138 at Maghull after being put in. David Miles top scored with an unbeaten 39.

The home side closed on 131-9 with Matthew Cox claiming 4-26 and Liam Crilly 3-30.

John While 82 and Louis Botes 66 were main contributors for New Brighton at home to Lytham. The visitors had reached 143-7 at stumps chasing a declared score of 220-3.

Birkenhead Park held out for a draw in Division One against Rainford.

Chris Bellis made an important 33 for Park who were on 112-9 at the end after Rainford posted 191-8 (Rob Houghton 4-51).

Birkenhead St Mary’s in Division Two were denied success by the last Wavertree pair.

The Saints declared on 221-7 with David Stewart contributing 45 and Mike Bowe 42. Darcy Ward took 4-54 as the home side totalled 189-9.

Neston enjoyed a 79-runs success at Macclesfield in the Premier Division of the Cheshire County League.

Andrew Clarke had a terrific game with an unbeaten 92 and a 4-34 haul.

Oxton lost a low scoring affair at Nantwich by five runs. Guyan Fernando 5-37 and Martyn Evans 5-30 did their best but the Oxton batsmen found the going tough.

Irby were happy with a nine wickets win in Division Two at Bollington who were dismissed for 115 after being asked to bat first. Andrew Williams did most damage with 6-65.

Then Danny Gulliver 52 and Dave Newman 41 enjoyed an excellent second wicket stand to ease past the home total.

Upton cruised past Winnington Park in Division One of the Cheshire League.

Gary Dixon with 6-22 helped restrict Park to a meagre 62 and Upton were able to win in a canter with just one wicket down.

Wirral in Division Three drew at Over Peover, closing 26 runs behind with three wickets intact.

Old Parkonians lost by five wickets at home to Stalybridge St Paul's in Division One of the Cheshire Alliance.

Port Sunlight destroyed visiting Styal by ten wickets in Division Two. David Nielson Scott took 7-2 in eight overs as Styal totalled a miserable 26.

Tranmere Vics (M.Edwards 59) achieved a six wickets victory at Offerton who declared on 155-9.

Saturday games include New Brighton at Southport and Birkdale, Wallasey v Bottle, Parkfield Liscard v Liverpool, Birkenhead Park at Northop Hall, Birkenhead St Mary’s v Prestatyn and Caldy v St Helens Town.

There is a Wallasey v New Brighton derby on Monday with other fixtures including Birkenhead Park v Orrell Red Triangle, Parkfield Liscard v Rainhill, Caldy v Prestatyn and Birkenhead St Mary's at Sefton Park.

Teams in other leagues face just Saturday commitments. In the Cheshire County League Neston welcome Hyde and Oxton entertain Bowdon. Irby are also home to Davenham.

Cheshire League games include Upton at Romiley and Wirral at Stockport Trinity.

In the Cheshire Association there are away clashes for Ellesmere Port at Saughall, Old Parkonians at Wilmslow Wayfarers and Port Sunlight at Bowdon Vale with Tranmere Vics welcoming Heaton Mersey.
