GLADSTONE'S Joe Edwards took full advantage of the perfect conditions on a lovely morning in Birkenhead Park to record his first win of 2017 with a comprehensive victory in the final over Tommy Walker of Hoylake and Melrose.
Edwards had a fairly straightforward win over Cammell Laird's Frank Leech in the quarters and then after a tight contest with last week's winner Quarry Viking's John Harrison he pulled away to clinch his place in the final.
Walker also enjoyed his morning in the sun and he had two good wins over Cammell Laird's Colin Mounsey and then Paul Smyth of Marine Park to reach his first final for some time.
Playing from corner to corner Edwards took control of the final and he ran out a 21-08 winner.
