NEW Brighton Quarry Viking's John Harrison played very well throughout the morning in Birkenhead Park.

He clinched his first win for some time at the Winter Flyers with a great win over Tixall's Matthew Gilmore in the final.

Harrison beat team mate Eddie Dutton in the quarter finals and then proved to be too good for Kevin Nugent of Hoylake and Melrose in his semi-final match.

Gilmore had a close match against Lever's Colin Portis in his quarter final and then he had to face his father and team mate at Tixalls, Dave Gilmore, in the semis.

However this proved to be no problem and he went through to face Harrison.

The final was an excellent match and Harrison, finding a level of form that had deserted him, was able to match Gilmore all the way and took the first prize with a 21-18 victory.
