THE fine weather on Sunday meant that there was another large turn out in Birkenhead Park but this did not prevent Hawksbury's Paul Roberts from continuing his great run of form to take his third win of this series of the Winter Flyers.

He was pushed all the way in both the semi-final, by Gladstone's Joe Edwards, and in the final, by your correspondent, but neither of the local players could prevent Roberts from winning again.

In his quarter final match Roberts beat Gladstone's Jamie Smith fairly comfortably but he only just scraped past Edwards in the semi final with a 21-20 win.

Atkinson meanwhile had been a little too consistent for Lever's Colin Portis in his quarter final match and then he too was involved in another very close semi final encounter with Upton Victory Hall's Bob Hodgson.

The final was also very tight throughout with never more than a couple of points separating the players but it was Roberts who just clinched it at the end.

This win means he has established a very big lead in the points table.
