THE Winter Flyers Tournaments in Birkenhead Park are proving to be more popular than ever and last Sunday, 46 bowlers took advantage of the ideal conditions to take part in an enjoyable morning of bowls competition.

Having won the last two weeks, the in-form Ray Lynch who plays for Gladstone was bidding to join a very select group of players who have won this tournament on three consecutive occasions and he duly reached the final to face Broughton's Adam Penlington.

To get through to the final, Lynch had been just a little too good for New Brighton Quarry Viking's John Cosgrove in the quarter finals before he just managed to get the better of Tixall's Dave Gilmore in the semis.

Meanwhile Penlington had beaten Lever's Colin Portis before coming through a really close game with the consistent Joe Edwards, another Gladstone player.

The final was a great game and could have gone either way but Lynch held his nerve and his form and he just pipped the Welsh player, winning 21-19.

This is a great run by Lynch and puts him well ahead in the points table.

I wonder if next week he can make it four wins in a row.
