THOUGH four Tixall players reached the quarter-final stage of the McParland Williams Tixall May Day Classic, there was to be no local winner this year.

At the end of a very long day on a good but slow-running green, the winner was Ben Harris from Warwick and Worcester who beat Terry Glover from Liverpool in the final.

Quarter-finals: Terry Glover (Liverpool) 21, Danny Barwise (Tixall) 18; Steve Glover (Tixall) 21, Robbie Fitzpatrick (Tixall) 15; Ben Harris (Warwick and Worcs) 21, Ian Hazlehurst (Tixall) 12; Gary Daw (Preston) 21, Russell Pegram (M&B Cheslyn Hay) 19.

Semi-finals: Terry Glover 21, Steve Glover 14; Harris 21, Daw 13.

Final: Harris 21, Glover 14.

In the final of the Wallasey Association’s Sheppick Cup, Manor Road ‘B’ were just too powerful for a gallant Greasby side last week.

The Manor Road side had to overcome a handicap of 18 points and they eventually won by 41 points.

Manor Road had four single-figure winners with the pick of the bunch being Colin Watterson's 21-2 win.

Greasby had three winners with Rob Smith recording a very impressive 21-5 success.

Manor Road 'A' will be doing all they can to try to make it a clean sweep for the three Manor Road teams when they play New Brighton Queens Royal in the final of the Presidents Cup.

The Tixall Club are again leading the way in the Birkenhead and Wirral (Evening Section) First Division, with Gladstone and Heswall RBL in second and third place.

Upton Victory Hall are making a determined effort to gain promotion to the first division and already have a good lead over the other teams in the second division.

In the Afternoon Section, Heswall RBL are again leading but Higher Tranmere Vets and Tixall are not far behind and it could all change.

In the second division, the Naval Club currently lead the way but several teams are just a point or two behind them.

In the Wallasey Association First Division, it is very tight at the top with the two New Brighton Clubs, Queens Royal and Quarry Vikings leading the way.

Queens Royal will be doing all they can to hold off their near rivals and win the title yet again.
