THE continuing pleasant weather saw one of the biggest ever turnouts at the Flyers Tournament in Birkenhead Park on Sunday.
Lever's Joe Edwards, showing a welcome return to form, took his first win of this series.
In the final he played Diane Allcock of Fron Park, Holywell, who just failed at the last hurdle to take her first ever win at these Tournaments and become only the second ever lady winner.
In the quarter finals she beat Magazine's Andy Buchanan before having a great victory over a previous finalist John Roberts of Levers.
Meanwhile another Levers player Joe Edwards had two excellent wins to reach the final.
He beat two previous winners in this series of tournaments, Gladstone's Ray Lynch in the quarter final and then Tixall's Mick Andrews in the semis.
In the final Diane Allcock was poised to take what would have been an historic win when she bowled the jack for victory at 19 across.
It wasn't to be, however, and Edwards took a very well deserved victory 21-19.
