THE Wallasey Association team suffered a disappointing 19-13 loss in their match against Furness on Sunday.

The home team playing on the Harrison Park number three green did well.

They had eight winners and won by 50 points. Four players, Robbie Fitzpatrick, Mark Bainbridge, Anthony Thompson and Ray Lynch all recorded 21-09 victories.

Unfortunately, the away team playing on a very tricky and difficult green at the Lindal Bowling Club could only manage to win three of their games. Matthew Gilmore top scored with a 21-07 win and they lost by 60 points. This gave an overall deficit of just 10 points.

Hopefully the team can bounce back in their next match against Colne Valley on July 26.

The Wallasey Association's Sheppick Cup Final played on the New Brighton Quarry Viking green produced an excellent match for the spectators with many close games but in the end Greasby, given a 12-shot start, finally overcame their opponents, Grange, to record a 26-shot victory.

Both teams had six winners but the two wins for Greasby's Rob Smith, 21-10, and Ron Fletcher, 21-07, were crucial.

For Grange, Bill Casey top scored with a 21-12 victory.

The McParland Williams Tixall Classic produced another great day's bowling on Bank Holiday Monday, May 25, which culminated in a fantastic final. Tixall's Nigel Hughes just clinched victory with the final bowl in a great 21-20 match against Preston's Wayne Ditchfield.

To reach the final Hughes beat his team mate Jordan McDermott in the quarters and then had a very good win over Cliff Massey from Liverpool in the semi final.

Ditchfield meanwhile got the better of New Brighton Quarry Viking's Chris Barton in the quarter final before beating one of the players who had come up from Birmingham for the tournament, Jon Palmer, in the semis.

In the final Hughes had established a 20-13 lead but a tremendous fight back by the player from Preston meant that Hughes was very relieved to edge the final point needed for victory and the top prize.

Results:

Quarter Finals: W. Ditchfield (Preston) 21, C. Barton (New Brighton Quarry Vikings) 12; J. Palmer (Birmingham) 21, S. Glover (New Brighton Quarry Vikings) 20; C. Massey (Liverpool) 21, D. Mcdermott (Tixall)14; N. Hughes (Tixall) 21, J. McDermott (Tixall) 16.
