THE lovely sunny weather early on Sunday morning attracted the biggest group of players for some time at the bowls Flyers Tournament in Birkenhead Park.

In winning for the second time since the New Year Joe Edwards who plays for Levers confirmed once again that he is one of the most improved players on the Wirral.

He beat Tixall's Jamie Fitzpatrick in yet another excellent final.

To reach the final, Edwards beat Port Sunlight's John Eissen in the quarter finals and then in the semi-final he just held off a very determined challenge from John Jones who plays for Mold in North Wales.

Fitzpatrick meanwhile had beaten Mike Shiels over from Liverpool in the quarters and he then followed this with a very good win over his team mate at Tixalls, Nigel Hughes.

Edwards played with great confidence in the final and was a worthy winner; this win takes him back to the top of the points table for this session of tournaments.
