OVER the last few weeks of this last session of the Winter Flyers John Jones, who plays for the Mold Club in North Wales, has consistently got through to the later stages of the tournaments.

In the Top 16 final meeting of the year he was able to go that little bit further and he took the top prize after a great series of games which culminated in a tremendous final against Gladstone's Ray Lynch.

In his quarter final game Jones beat the player who has headed the points table throughout this session, Tixall's Mick Andrews, and he followed this with a dominant display against a determined John Roberts of Levers.

Meanwhile Lynch had just scraped through against West Kirby's Bill Atkinson in the quarters before he had a tremendous win over last week's winner, Tixall's Jamie Fitzpatrick, in the semi final.

The final was always tight but Jones was able to take that vital last point in an encounter that could not have been closer.

Before the tournament started the players expressed their gratitude to Pat Hignett for providing us with toast and drinks each week and to Colin Saville who works so hard to run this tournament week after week.
