JAMIE Fitzpatrick took full advantage of the relatively warm and calm conditions at this Sunday's Flyers tournament in Birkenhead Park to record his first win of this series when he beat your correspondent, West Kirby's Bill Atkinson, in the final.

In the quarter-final he came up against Lever's Joe Edwards, a player who regularly reaches the later stages of these tournaments, but Fitzpatrick was able to win this game quite comfortably.

However, his semi-final match against his team mate at Tixalls, Nigel Hughes, was much closer, Fitzpatrick only squeezing through 21-19.

Atkinson's quarter final game with New Brighton Quarry Viking's John Harrison went to the very last wood but the semi-final game against Ian Hazlehurst, another Tixall player, was, rather surprisingly, a little less fraught.

Fitzpatrick got off to an excellent start in the final and although Atkinson showed flashes of the form that had taken him to this stage of the tournament Fitzpatrick's play was just too consistent.
