LAST week Upton Victory Hall's Tony Cavanagh had a brilliant run of results to reach the final only to be narrowly defeated by the in-form Mick Andrews.

This week though he managed to go one better and, after yet another excellent run of results, he beat Heswall RBL's John Lloyd in the final.

In his semi-final match with John Harrison, who plays for the Rice Lane Club in Liverpool, he initially established a big lead only for the Liverpool man to fight back to be virtually level; however a nervy last few ends then saw Cavanagh home.

He then faced the formidable Matthew Gilmore who plays for Tixall; in this match the scores were very level until an inspired run of play gave the Upton player a 21-14 win.

After a few weeks rest Lloyd has returned to the Flyers again showing the form he was displaying in the early weeks of this session of tournaments;

after a very good win over the Chester player Tommy Lowndes he faced the player who is way ahead at the top of the points table, Tixall's Mick Andrews.

This game was very close and though Andrews did all he could to try and get through to his fourth successive final Lloyd was just too good and won through 21-19.

Though he then maintained this high standard in the final Cavanagh really was playing exceptionally well and thoroughly deserved his 21-13 win.
