TIXALL'S Mick Andrews proved he really is back to his best when he won the Flyers Tournament for the second consecutive week – in doing so he established a huge lead in the points table.

After fighting through the earlier rounds in one of the biggest turnouts (43 players) seen in these events in Birkenhead Park, he beat his Tixall’s clubmate Nick Hughes in the final.

To even reach the quarter-finals, Andrews already had to beat some excellent players before he then had a very good win over Peter McBride who plays for Port Sunlight Village and Works.

McBride had done well to get to this stage as he had to get the better of two of the players currently in the top ten in the table.

In his semi-final match, Andrews was then just too good on the day for Lever's Colin Portis.

Hughes had also had a tough draw. He did well to get home in a very close match against another Tixall player, the in-form Matthew Gilmore, in the quarter-finals before he came up against yet another of the excellent Tixall players, Jamie Fitzpatrick.

This time Hughes had a somewhat more decisive win to take himself through to the final.

In the final Andrews beat Hughes 21-18 though in many ways the score was not really a true reflection of the game.
