AFTER the snow caused the cancellation of last Sunday's bowls flyer event, it was good to get back to playing on a cold but sunny morning in Birkenhead Park.

The final brought together the two players who have dominated this session of the tournaments, Jamie Fitzpatrick who plays for Tixalls and West Kirby Victoria and his team mate from Tixalls, Mick Andrews.

At the end of their match a fairly comfortable win for Fitzpatrick meant he had further extended his lead at the top of the points table.

Though Fitzpatrick had a very straightforward win in the semi-final against John Cosgrove, his two previous matches - both 21-20 wins - were anything but straightforward.

In the first, he just pipped Paul Roberts from North Wales and then really struggled in the quarter-final against Frank Leech, who put in a tremendous performance.

Andrews beat Port Sunlight Works and Village John Harrison in the quarter final before he and Roger Griffiths, also from North Wales, had a really excellent game which Andrews finally took 21-18.

In the final, Fitzpatrick's consistent play and maybe the rub of the green meant that his win over Andrews was possibly a little easier than he might have expected.
