'Ugly' game ends in defeat for New Brighton
1:52pm Monday 10th December 2012 in Rugby
AN ugly game of rugby provided West Park with a win against New
Brighton and sees them gain five out of five in both cup and league, writes Chris Martin.
West Park dominated the early exchanges but New Brighton scored first from a cleverly-worked crash ball.
The home side hit back immediately with a typicalwinger’s try by Adam Travers, who rounded the full back with aplomb.
After a yellow card for West Park’s scrum half, the away side secured penalty line-out ball and drove successfully over to take the lead again.
The hosts came out firing in the second half and deft interplay at which Richard Twist was at the fore sucked in two defenders to send Ryan McPaul over in the forth minute, Travers dissected the posts with a simple conversion.
The key moment of the game came ten minutes later, when New Brighton could not compete against Tom Dempsey's fast hands and switch ball.
Ollie Berry came in the line to claim the ball before running impressively in to score.
The match was put out of sight when the excellent Twist surged through the outside-centre channel, skinned the full back and went over for the games best score, easily converted by Rob Pritchard.
