Houlihan’s Birkenhead Sunday League: Mixed fortunes in Wirral Junior Cup

HOULIHAN'S Birkenhead Sunday League sides experienced with mixed fortunes in the second-round of the Wirral Junior Cup.
Aaron Morgan hit a hat-trick for Beechwood Falcons as they defeated League counterparts Woodward FC 5-3.
Strikes from Chris Brady (2), Stefan Cooper and Kelvin Phoenix were all on target and an own-goal completed the scoring.
Two goals from Dave Connor for FC Vaults put them through against Allport Athletic, and Armchair Alliance reached the next round with a 4-3 success over Shippons, with Robert Marrs (2), Liam Farrall and Steve Abbott on target.
Eswa (Liam Rose 2) went out 5-2 at Champions Bar and there were heavy defeats for New Ferry Rangers and Shawcross, as their Junior Cup campaign came to an end.
Mark Lawler scored five as Shaftesbury Youth B (Bevan, Swindle) beat Lancelyn Glenavon (Martin Reeve) 7-1, in the second-round of the Tony Houlihan’s Memorial Challenge Cup.
AFC Arrowe Park (Duddy 2, McIver, Ferguson, L Smith) beat Merebrook (Hughes 3, Lee 2) on penalties after finishing 5-5 and PSV Athletic (Williams) also beat Birkenhead Youth B (Dillon) on penalties after finishing all square.
King’s Arms (M Smith 2, Edge) went into the next round by defeating Wirral Spartans (L Jones 2) 3-2.
Premier Division action saw Queens Park strengthen their position at the top by defeating Laird’s Sports Club (N Jones) 3-1; Purnell (2) and Atherton on the mark.
Upton Villa (James 2, Davies, Holmes) had a fine 4-3 success against Shore Villa (Clampitt 2, Lea) and Rock Ferry Social had a convincing 5-1 result over Stirrup Sports & Social (Wood), with goals from Atkinson (2), Cairns, K Jones and Stewart. Argyll (Feightman) and Bidston Hotel shared the points in a 1-1 draw and Heygarth (Forbes, Robertson, Evans) beat Brow 3-2.
In the only Division One game, Shaftesbury Youth A ran out 6-2 winners at Prenton Dell (Ryan, McElroy). AFC Houlihans (Patterson, Cairns) won 2-0 at Riley’s FC in Division Two and FC Ellies (Cross, Painter) beat Millcroft (Fitzpatrick) 2-1.
In Division Three, Rangers Breaks recorded a fine 3-1 result at FC Ridger Athletic; Ellis, Holland and Cefai doing the damage.
Vauxhall Youth knocked out Ashville Colts from the Wirral Youth Under-18 Cup by 4-1.
Beechwood Youth went out on penalties to Christleton Youth and Glenavon Colts went down 2-1 at Ridgewood Rangers. In the only Youth Division game, AC Hoylake JFC defeated Shore Villa Youth 2-0.
