West Cheshire League: 'Resounding' victory for West Kirby

WEST Kirby kick started their challenge for the Carlsberg West Cheshire League's Division One title, thanks to a resounding 6-0 victory at Ellesmere Port.

Doubles from Mike McGraa and Terry Cotgrave were supplemented by further efforts from Lee Davies and Kevin Fitzsimmons, as the Marine Park outfit secured their fourth win of the season.

Matty Johnson plundered the game's only goal as leaders, Heswall triumphed at Mossley Hill Ath., and stayed two points in credit at the top, while Cammell Laird Res. leapfrogged Marine Res. into second place, after two goal Craig Cairns took the plaudits, following a 3-0 result at Chester Nomads.
 

Reigning champions, Ashville, had Jay Clare and Joe Brazzel on target, but conceded two points after Christleton hit back through Chris McGann and an own goal. Newton's 2-1 eclipse of Upton AA, featured a goal apiece from Jamie Hannah and Dave Thompson. Simon Andrews bagged the Chester side's consolation.

In Division Two, Heswall Res., joined leaders, South Liverpool, on level points, when Owen Davies and Paul Linfield obliged in the 2-1 decision over Mossley Hill Ath. Res.

Third-placed Mallaby saw efforts from John Hedges and Gerrard Mullen cancelled out by replies from Bebington Ath.'s Sean Heggarty and Tom Byrne before an injury time bullet header from John Coulter sealed a 3-2 win for the Mark Toner's charges.

Despite efforts from Andy Kingham and Tom Mole, Manor Ath. capitulated 8-2 at home to replies from Helsby's Steve O'Brien(3)Ian Cox(2)John Coady(2) and Wes Huizer and that result kept the visitors in fifth place. A Robbie Madine hat trick anchored Richmond Raith Rovers to a 4-2 victory at West Kirby Res., while Ian Forster and Chris Nation were the respective marksmen, as Capenhurst Villa finished 1-1 with Maghull Res. Williams(2) and Birch found the net for Ashville Res. in a comfortable 3-0 success at Willaston.

A solitary effort from Joe Connolly setttled the issue, as Division Three leaders Gateacre, won at Widnes Town,and stayed two points clear of nearest rivals, Redgate Rovers, who beat Hale Res. 5-3 with goals from Craig Blackwell (2) and Sam Corlett (2) and a smart double from Sean Crosby helped Ellesmere Port Res. to a 4-3 triumph at Christleton Res. John Pomphrett, Dean Brown and Kalumbo Mwande netted for the hosts.
 

Third-placed Marshalls Res. celebrated a 3-0 win over Capenhurst Villa Res., courtesy of a goal apiece from Lucas Porquet-Molina, Rabbie Alexanre and Andrew Iniabere while Dave Heaton's smart finish earned Merseyside Police maximum spoils from their tussle with South Liverpool Res.
 

Colin McDonald(3)Ryan Fossard and Danny Hart made the score sheet, as Belfry overcame Neston Nomads 5-3, while Sam Burgess and Alan Bond applied the finishing touches, as Chester Nomads Res. won 2-0 at Bebington Ath. Res.

Saturday's Youth Division action saw an impressive Custy's post a 4-1 result at Vauxhall Motors Youth, thanks to efforts from Sam Smith (3)and Connor Irwin.

Pride of place in the Liverpool County FA Challenge Cup 1st round, belonged to Division Two leaders, South Liverpool, who put paid to Division One outfit, Maghull. Alex Woodcock(2)Neil Best and Scott Baker scored in the 4-1 victory. Congratulations also to Marshalls, who progressed after they despatched Coppras Hill 7-3, highlighted by a Kenny Gambo hat trick.
