Third time unlucky for Caldy
3:23pm Monday 17th September 2012 in Sport By Andrew Stratton
IT WAS third time unlucky for Caldy as they suffered their first defeat of the season in National Two North League.
It finished 23-39 at Bromsgrove where J.J.Dickinson and Derek Salisbury touched down for Caldy with Richard Vasey adding both conversions and a trio of penalties.
The Wirral side was in with a chance until late in the encounter when Bromsgrove scored a crucial fifth try.
Birkenhead Park went under 20-40 in the National Three North League cross river derby at Waterloo but it was a very harsh scoreline.
A poor first quarter saw Park 0-20 behind but they fought back to trail only 20-26 in the last quarter.
They pounded the home line looking for a crucial score but refereeing decisions appeared to go against them before two breakaway Waterloo tries in added time put the issue beyond doubt.
Stu Brown touched down twice for Birkenhead and Dave Hall added the conversions and a couple of penalties.
Wirral came away 27-7 to the good from Manchester in North One West but Anselmians managed just a penalty in a 3-47 set back at Vale of Lune.
There was more success for Hoylake and New Brighton in South Lancashire/Cheshire One. Hoylake saw off visiting Tyldesley 21-7 and Brighton took a thriller at Winnington Park 33-29.
Gavin Attwood and Brett Williams secured two tries apiece for the Blues. Kati Tuipulto also went in and Luke Thompson converted four times. Park also managed five touch downs but only two conversions.
Wallasey were edged out 30-24 at Dukinfield in Division Two and Oldershaw crashed 0-48 at home to Sefton.
Oxton Parkonians in Division Three hit Liverpool University 41-0 thanks to touch downs via Andy Smith (2), Liam Evans, Matt Dooley, Craig Whelan, Ryan Evans and John Dunning plus three goals via Terry Williams.
