Victory for Motormen

MOTORS ran out comfortable winners at Rivacre Park on Tuesday night with a convincing second half display.

The home side opened the scoring on 11 minutes when Lee Dames delivered a fine cross from the right and Simon Thelwell was on hand to head home from six yards out.

Burscough equalised almost immediately when a through ball found John Kennedy who rounded the onrushing Vauxhall keeper Gary Spotswood and calmly slotted the ball into an empty net.

After a fairly even first half, Motors dominated the second half with some fine passing football which had Burscough chasing shadows at times.

The Motormen restored their lead on 65 minutes when Craig Mahon danced thorugh the heart of the Burscough defence before hitting a 25 yarder which dipped over the helpless Burscough keeper Tim Horn.

It was 3-1 on 72 minutes when Steve Wainwright crossed form the right wing and new Motors captain Tom Hannigan made no mistake with a close range header.

In the final minutes, Danny Fearnehough was rewarded for his efforts in midfield when he found space on the edge of the box to hit a deflected right footed effort over the stranded Burscoough keeper Horn to make it 4-1 on the night.
