SAILING: 'Deteriorating conditions' halt Coronation Salver competition
4:30pm Monday 28th May 2012 in Sport By Andrew Stratton
THE annual Coronation Salver team sailing first leg event between West Kirby Sailing Club and Hoylake Sailing Club had to be called off at the weekend.
Crews were aboard the Hilbres in the Dee Estuary with sails set when conditions deteriorated and officials called a halt.
A decision still has to be taken as to whether the second leg of the event in Operas at Hoylake in September goes ahead.
Meanwhile local clubs will have plenty of domestic competition during the extended Queen’s Diamond Jubilee weekend.
Hoylake as part of their 125 year celebrations will have Jazz Junction playing at their clubhouse together with a barbecue after inshore racing on Monday afternoon.
West Kirby include a long distance race and a pursuit race in their plans.
The local regatta programme gets under way in June. Wallasey and West Cheshire events will be on June 9 and June 10 with the junior regattas on Friday evening, June 8, on West Kirby Lake.
The Royal Mersey Regatta is scheduled for June 16. The West Kirby, Dee and Hoylake annual events will be during July.
