AT the end of another excellent morning's play in Birkenhead Park, the final was between the two players who have dominated the start of this new series of Flyers.
The winner of two weeks ago, Paul Roberts, who plays for the Baileys Hill Club in North Wales, took on last week's winner John Hignett Jnr from Liverpool.
This time it was the Welsh player who excelled - and the top prize went back to Wales.
In the quarter-finals, Roberts had had a hard game against Magazine's Fred Arnell before really hitting form in the semi-final being too good for Lever's Dave Motley Jnr.
Meanwhile, Hignett had dominated in both his quarter- and semi-final matches beating Colin Mounsey and then Tommy Howell.
In the final, however, Roberts was always in charge and he ran out a 21-15 winner.
Results:
Quarter-finals: P Roberts 21, F Arnell 18; D Motley Jnr 21, T Walker 11; T Howell 21, R Griffiths 16; J Hignett Jnr 21, C Mounsey 12.
Semi-finals: Roberts 21, Motley 10; Hignett 21, Howell 07.
Final: Roberts 21, Hignett 15.
The Merseyside Bowling Association's annual meeting was held last week and the Merseyside Player of 2011 Trophy was awarded to Heswall RBL's Dave McDermott in recognition of his success during the year.
Wallasey Crown Green Bowling Association will be celebrating its centenary this year.
On Friday, March 23, the association is holding a centenary race night at the Sacred Heart Parish Centre. Doors open at 7pm and the first race gets underway at 8pm.
Correction: The sponsors of the Tixall Classic Tournament mentioned in last week's report are McParland Williams; not McFarland Williams. Apologies for this error.
