HESWALL Royal British Legion failed in their attempt to lift the Cheshire County Norman Cup going down by 18 to Grange at Waverton Institute Bowling Club, Chester.

Heswall had to give their Warrington opponents a controversial 20 handicap start and despite a tremendous 21-1 from Steve Davies, supported by Haydn Carless (21-7) and Dave McDermott (21-9), Heswall still fell short as three bad cards – 21-4, 7 and 8 – proved costly.

Division Four Higher Tranmere Vets 'C', like their 'A' side, made up for last year's disappointment of losing in the Birkenhead & Wirral Afternoon Section Centenary Cup final by winning with ease this time around against Division Five side Capenhurst 'C'.

Higher Tranmere won all ten games with Nick Burridge Snr's 21-6 card the best of the match.

Not far behind were Tommy James who won 21-7 and Dave Bayne 21-8.

Brian Thompson (Higher Tranmere Vets) and Dave McDermott (Heswall RBL) fell at the last 32 and last 16 stages in the Waterloo World Championship.

Dave McDermott beat his Merseyside County colleague, Mike Tunstall, 21-17 in the last 32 but bowed out in the last 16 to another Merseyside colleague, Kevin Kearns from St Helens, 21-15.

Lynsey Gorman & Terry Glover won the W H Watters trophy in front of a sparse crowd at Pensby Bowling Club.

They defeated the Welsh pairing of Viv Roberts & Neil Snodgrass 21-19 in the final. Meanwhile, Anthony O'Neill beat his Gladstone team-mate, Nick Burridge, 31-22 in the final of the Tony Vyskocil Memorial Trophy played at Manor Road.
