THE remaining Houlihan's Birkenhead Sunday League Memorial Challenge Cup quarter-finals took place this weekend with both ties requiring extra-time.

Shaftesbury Youth A put in a fine display with goals from Lee Hodgkin and Jamie Smith, to take Woodchurch AFC to the extra period.

Gary Duckers and Ross Rule scored for Woodchurch, before Ben Holmes put them through to face Rock Ferry Social.

Dock FC and Brow FC met in the cup for the second week running and with the same outcome; a Gary Reay penalty and a Jamie Kenyon effort enough to beat Brow (Jon-Paul Cassidy) 2-1 and put Dock into the last four, where they will face Stirrup Sports & Social.

In the Wirral Youth U18 Cup Semi-Final, Vauxhall Youth won a place in the Final by defeating Newton Athletic 2-0, with goals from Mark Winslade and Curtis Ali.

Ashville Panthers went down 3-2 after extra-time against New Brighton, despite a Jack Mooney effort and a Ryan Clarke penalty.

The Wirral Junior Cup semi-final saw Birkenhead Youth B bow out, going down 2-0 to Birkenhead Vale.

Shore Villa's season goes from strength to strength as they reached the final of the Presidents Cup, with goals from Olly James and Carl Clampitt in a 2-1 win over Lancelyn Glenavon (Mike McGree).

Tony Smith Cup semi-final action saw Shaftesbury Youth B (Tommy Wright 2, Mark Lawler 2, Craig Holman) defeat Prenton Dell (Edwards, Bimpson, McKay, Bolton) 5-4 after extra-time.

They will face Comecon in the final after they beat Shaftesbury Youth C (Danny Mooney) 2-1 with goals from Chris Gardner and James Knox.

The Final of the M&A Groundwork Cup will be between Ellesmere Port (Nathan Mapletoft 2, Simon Mapletoft 2, Gary Handley) who beat Neston Athletic (Chris Higgins) 5-1 and Pollards Inn, who saw off The Avenue 1-0.

Trafalgar Shield second round action saw Ashville Youth (Luke Sullivan 2, Keith Lewis 2, Ben Cloney, Kyle Kelly) beat Shaftesbury Youth (Billy Richards 2) 6-2.

Premier Division leaders Queens Park resumed normal service with a double from Ian Loughran and one from Lee Gibson, in a 3-0 result over New Ferry Wirral Hotel.

Stirrup Sports & Social (Davey Hay, Billy Devey, Michael Devey) recorded the same scoreline over The Tower, Heygarth FC (Jon Atkinson 3, Lloyd Ithell 2, Andy Grimes, Craig Kavanagh) ran out 7-1 winners at Parkside (Jamie Brown) and Bidston Hotel (Ryan Atherton) shared the points with Rock Ferry Social (MacNichlas) in a 1-1 draw.

In Division One, the two bottom teams met and it was Saddle Club (Askew 2) who came out on top, beating Lions FC (Mirlees) 2-1.

Bebington Legion (Stuart Hardman 2, Alan Craze) keep fighting at the wrong end of Division Two with a 3-1 victory at Lions Athletic and FC Ridger helped their own relegation battle, with a 1-0 success at Bushells Athletic.

Rangers Breaks (Greg Beardsley) remain in the battle at the bottom after going down 2-1 to AFC Houlihans (Ben Jones, Michael Farrell).

The only Youth Division game ended in a 3-2 win for Vauxhall Colts (Ben Windle 2, Ryan Lawson) over Birkenhead Boys Youth (Nathan Taffe, Lewis Rice).
