Snow puts freeze on weekend rugby programme

THERE was a complete wipe out of the local rugby union programme on Saturday due to the freezing conditions and already prospects of a resumption of action this coming weekend do not look too favourable.

It is worrying for the clubs and officials with revenue badly hit.

It is now more than four weeks since most clubs played which leaves a back log of fixtures for the weeks ahead.

Certainly the players who have done their best to maintain training schedules will hope they can get some action on Saturday.

Caldy in National Two North are due at Bradford and Bingley and will step out as favourites to record another success against lowly opposition to maintain their challenge for honours.

Birkenhead Park are scheduled to entertain Cleckheaton in National Three North whilst New Brighton head for Northwich in North One West.

It is an important date for the Blues as they game will also count in the semi-final of the Cheshire Vase competition but it will be far from easy.

Brighton won the earlier league meeting but Northwich have now moved second in the table whilst the Hartsfield outfit have slipped into the lower half of the division after a disappointing run of results.

South Lancashire/Cheshire League fixtures include in Division One Anselmians at Glossop, Hoylake at Widnes and Wirral v Bowdon.

In Division Two there is an Oldershaw v Wallasey derby whilst Division Three includes Parkonians v Congleton, Port Sunlight v Capenhurst and Prenton v Holmes Chapel.
