NEW Brighton outfit, Peggy Gadflys, assumed pole position in the Wirral Sunday League's Division Two title race for the first time this season, after they romped home 8-1 against Tranmere Victoria.
Robbie Langton, Jason Stenhouse and Paul Williams all bagged doubles in an impressive display of attacking football. Singles from Greg Nixon and Dave Hickman completed the scoreline, with Ben Calcott in reply for Vics.
Previous leaders, Parkview Social, forfeited top spot and their unbeaten record, after they went down 3-1 at third placed challengers, Lord Raglan.
Kevin Kay, Terry Orange and Brian Baber scored for the winners, but goals from John Holland (2) Mark Taylor and Kenny Holland failed to prevent Plough from losing 7-4 at home to Carlton.
Division One title favourites, Prenton Park, took over from Sportsmans Arms at the top, after they posted a 6-0 result over Wirral FC. Ace marksman, Phil Owen struck twice, as did John McGraa with Matty Basolu and Kevin Smart also finding the net, as Prenton went two points clear, with a game in hand.
Chris Maddocks (2), Joey Rice, Gibril Buktana and James Tohall scored in Maritime' s 6-0 rout of Wirral Ath., but it was a stunning volley from Chris Smith which provided the main talking point.
Paul Gavin scored Archer's consolation in their 3-1 defeat by Chronicle, while a depleted Wallasey Village line up paid a heavy price against PSI, who took full advantage in a 13-0 victory, which confirmed their fourth win of the season.
Promotion outsiders, 80s Casuals, stayed in the mix, after they enjoyed a 5-2 success over erratic performers, Gladstone Social.
In a high-scoring Premier Division encounter, current leaders, MSC Eastham, overcame reigning champions, Lancelyn Glenavon 8-5, in a roller coaster of a game at Eastham Locks. Gary O'Toole, Andy Akerman and Neil Unsworth plundered two goals each.
Lee Wharton also netted and a spectacular long range effort from Kev Edge completed the leaders' contribution.
Nearest rivals, Sportsmans Victoria, maintained interest, after Ben England and Gareth Thomas scored in a narrow 2-1 win over Kent FC. Kieran Newport replied for the visitors.
Wirral Health put in a good shift against third placed Euro Wirral, but a goal from Mark Layfield wasn't enough to stave off a 3-1 defeat.
Tixalls climbed to fifth place after they eclipsed TSF 5-,3 and it was a good day for relegation threatened Towers, who toasted their first win of the season, after Jimmy Breheny and Craig Lloyd netted in the 2-0 win at Eagle & Crown which consigned the Upton club to the bottom of the table.
