WIRRAL-based model yacht enthusiasts from the Birkenhead club put up a bold showing in the International One Metre World Championship in Barbados.
Unfortunately Australian Brad Gibson who lives in New Brighton could not quite hold on to the title he won in Marseille.
He had to settle for the runners-up spot behind Jelaciv Zvonko from Croatia who enjoyed a twelve points winning margin.
Zvonkjo with six first thoroughly deserved his victory. Gibson won three of the twenty races.
Martin Roberts from Birkenhead was a very creditable sixth overall from a maximum sixty six strong entry. Dave Potter from West Kirby took eighteenth overall.
They each posted one victory.
It was the first visit to Barbados for the championship sailed at Carlisle Bay and a good time was had by all.
West Kirby Sailing Club hope to resume Marine Lake evening racing on July 28.
No lake sailing has been possible this season due to repairs to the lake but the contractors expect to finish shortly and the lake should fill again on about July 23.
Meanwhile there is a three day Regatta programme on the Estuary starting on Friday July 10 with the River Dee event organised by West Kirby.
Dee have their Centenary Regatta on the Saturday and West Kirby follow up on the Sunday.
