THREE thaiboxing students from Birkenhead have returned with honours from a British Championships contest in Manchester.
Laura Baugh, 15, Mark Purdie 18, and Amanda Mcwilliam, 22 (pictured) all fought full British Thaiboxing rules against some of the city’s toughest home fighters in Salford and won on unaminous points decisions.
They all train at Mersey Thai in Tranmere.
Their instructor Paul Beaty, who was taught by world thaiboxing legends Russ Wiliams and Eugene Valerio, told Globe Sport: “It’s really hard to get Laura fights, she’s only 15 years old and there was no one who could beat her in junior rules so she had to step up to Senior thaiboxing rules and now has to fight grown women in their 20s.
“I’m not happy about doing that but she doesn’t have any problems fighting at that standard and proved it in Manchester.”
