WIRRAL A C visited Longford Park, Stretford for the final match in Division Three West of the Northern Track & Field League, knowing that a season’s best performance was required to avoid relegation.
While several younger members were available to supplement the thin ranks of the senior athletes, the team finished fifth out of the six teams on the day, not good enough to prevent a return to Division Four next season.
It was not all doom and gloom however with Becky McLinden and Kate Brick winning both 100m and combining with Eleanor Lewis and Julie Money to dominate the sprint relay.
Nicole Haviland and Emily Murphy took maximum points in the 1,500m as did Rebecca Blacklock and Jenny Roberts in the High Jump.
The Men’s quartet of Andy Boyd, Craig O’Brien, Jake Collins and Sid Srinivas had a convincing win in the sprint relay. In the individual sprints, Andy Boyd was placed in the 100m and 200m A races, while Craig O’Brien just snatched a win in the B 200m after taking second in the B 100m.
